Redress Design Award Collection

Shan Ni’s Redress Design Award collection, ‘Mahjong Weariable’, explores the tile-based game of mahjong through variable and delight-inducing fashion. The collection features zero-waste drapes with mahjong-inspired details like cuts referencing bamboo patterns, buttons like mahjong dots, and mahjong characters and flowers. Designing for longevity, Shan Ni creates versatility with foldable garments that can become tile charms, and a wool knit top with interchangeable collar, sleeve, and waist openings to achieve multiple looks within one garment. She uses vegan leather made from cactus and bamboo, recycled cotton, and secondhand denim to minimise waste and environmental impact.
