Redress Design Award Collection

Janak’s Redress Design Award collection, ‘Celestial Lover’, is inspired by Bai Suzhen’s unconditional love in the Chinese folktale, The Legend of the White Snake. Zero-waste garments echo the titular white snake through colour, delicate discarded fabrics, hand-embroidery, and shadow folding. Designing for low environmental impact, Janak upcycles all materials including a coat and vest made from old curtains, plus a top and bottom garment made from stitching together thin rectangular strips of discarded, locally sourced clothes and home textiles. A pair of baggy trousers are designed with buttons on the sides for size adjustments, offering versatility.
